
Dr. rer. nat. Karolin Heinze
PhD | Research Associate
Dr. Karolin Heinze spent most of her childhood in a small village in Saxony-Anhalt, East Germany, but later studied biochemistry and molecular medicine at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany and Michigan State University. She received her doctoral degree in molecular biomedicine in 2019.
She joined Dr. Anglesio's lab in early 2020 as a Postdoc after spending years in ‘mainstream’ ovarian cancer research, she wanted to focus on rarer, less studied ovarian cancers, where she felt her efforts would be more helpful.
Her current research focuses on the transcriptional and epigenomic profiles and immune microenvironment of endometriosis-associated ovarian carcinomas (EAOC), as well as novel detection techniques of somatic mutations in endometriosis.

Dr. Karolin Heinze held a DFG research fellowship, is the 2020-2021 Division of Gynecologic Oncology Research Awardee and her latest publication was featured on the cover of Cancer Research.
Fun Fact: Karolin also has a Masters in Business Administration, plays (Olympic) handball since the age of 10 and coaches the local Vancouver teams' which recently led them to compete in various Canadian and US national level tournaments.
